Dr Debra Gershov‑West was born in Melbourne and made aliyah after completing her medical studies, choosing to build her life and career in Israel. She is an emergency medicine physician and an expert in trauma care. As someone who receives the wounded in her emergency department, she understands exactly what determines whether a patient survives those first critical minutes. On October 7, she was in charge of the emergency department at Assuta Hospital in Ashdod, where she and her colleagues received multitudes of casualties. The gap between injury in the field and treatment in hospital was immediate and real.Out of that experience, she started Frontline Emergency Medicine, which delivers hands‑on simulations and training exercises. These teach soldiers and first responders the latest battlefield‑tested techniques to treat the wounded and keep them alive until they reach hospital care. Much of this work is powered by volunteer medical professionals. Her leadership is practical and precise; Learn what saves lives. Teach it widely.
