Inspiring Jew from Today: Hillel Neuer

Hillel Neuer is a human rights lawyer who insists that principles only matter if they are applied honestly.

Since becoming executive director of UN Watch in 2004, Neuer has spent more than two decades documenting how international institutions, particularly the United Nations, single out Israel while ignoring or excusing far more serious abuses elsewhere.

He does not reject the language of human rights. He uses it. Neuer quotes resolutions, cites voting records, and relies on institutions’ own words to expose their double standards, asking why the rules change when Jews are involved.

This work has come at a cost. Neuer is regularly shouted down in UN forums and publicly delegitimised for doing exactly what human rights bodies claim to value: scrutiny and consistency. Silence would be easier.

What sets him apart is restraint. He returns to the facts, year after year, trusting that clarity is its own form of strength. In a time when distorted language is used to justify hostility toward Jews, Neuer’s contribution is simple and disciplined: he refuses to accept false rules.
