Josh Frydenberg has become one of the most important public advocates for Australian Jews in recent years. Over the last two years, he has worked relentlessly to confront rising antisemitism and support a community facing fear and uncertainty.
A former Treasurer and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, Frydenberg is one of the highest-ranking Jewish politicians in Australia’s history. He carries that identity with confidence and pride. Since October 7, through speaking clearly when others hesitated, he has become an unofficial spokesperson for Australian Jews.
In a moment when many communal bodies struggled to speak with strength, Frydenberg took up the mantle of leadership. He articulated publicly what many Jews were saying privately; that antisemitism must be confronted decisively, that Jewish safety is non-negotiable, and that the community deserves to be heard.
His advocacy has taken many forms. His documentary on antisemitism brought national attention to rising hatred. He has spoken widely across media where he challenges misinformation. He has shown up at synagogues, rallies, vigils, schools, and community gatherings, always offering reassurance and resolve.
His leadership has never been felt more strongly than in these last days. On 17 December 2025, Frydenberg delivered a powerful address at Bondi Beach, demanding action against the ideology that led to the attack. His speech will likely become a defining moment in Jewish Australian history.
He continues to advocate for stronger protections, a national antisemitism strategy, and practical support for Jewish communities, including through the DOR Foundation, which he co-founded.
Josh Frydenberg embodies the ideal Jewish leader: steady, courageous, and proud.
