Inspiring Jews Today: Yoni Finlay & Adrian Daulby z"l

Just last week, on Yom Kippur 2025, the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Manchester came under attack. A terrorist killed two worshippers and wounded several others outside the synagogue. Inside, Yoni Finlay, a father and regular worshipper, and Adrian Daulby, a gentle man known for his quiet presence, rushed to barricade the doors, determined to stop him from breaking in.

Within a few minutes, police arrived and fired at the terrorist from outside. Bullets passed through the synagogue doors, striking both men — Yoni was gravely wounded and Adrian was killed.

Despite the obvious dangers, Yoni and Adrian remained in the doorway, protecting the entry. Their selfless act of guarding the door placed them in the line of police fire, but it also meant the terrorist never got inside. Their courage saved the lives of everyone in the synagogue that morning.

Their bravery is a reminder that heroism is not only found in soldiers or leaders. It can be found in ordinary people who choose to protect others, even at the highest cost.
