Israeli Innovation: FakeReporter

FakeReporter is an Israeli organisation, founded in 2020, that tracks online disinformation.
It identifies fake accounts, coordinated campaigns and misleading narratives, often in real time and particularly during periods of conflict.
Its work focuses on something increasingly difficult in today’s environment, separating what is real from what is not.
Information now moves quickly. It is shared widely, often without context or verification. False claims can spread just as easily as accurate ones, sometimes faster.
FakeReporter works to investigate these patterns, trace where information comes from, and expose what is deliberately misleading.
Since its founding, it has repeatedly uncovered large networks of fake social media accounts posing as real people, designed to spread false narratives and influence public opinion.
Most people will never use FakeReporter directly. But they see its impact when fake accounts are exposed, false stories are corrected, and information that seemed real is shown to be misleading.
This is a different kind of innovation.
It is not about creating something new, but about protecting something that is easily lost: truth.
