Israeli Innovation: Yad Sarah

Yad Sarah is an Israeli organisation that provides medical equipment and support to people in need.
It was founded in 1976 and has grown into one of the largest volunteer organisations in Israel, with thousands of volunteers operating across more than a hundred branches nationwide.
It lends items such as wheelchairs, oxygen machines and hospital beds, helping people recover at home and maintain a level of independence.
While similar services exist in other countries, they are often limited, expensive, or difficult to access.
Yad Sarah operates on a different model. It makes this support widely and consistently available, often at little or no cost, and reaches a large part of the population each year.
In doing so, it reduces pressure on hospitals and helps people navigate illness and recovery with greater dignity.
The scale of the organisation, combined with its model, has removed any stigma around using this service. It allows people to access the equipment they need, when they need it, in a way that feels straightforward and dignified.
