Inspiring Jew from Today: Bari Weiss
Bari Weiss has built her career around the belief that people should be free to speak, question and disagree.
An American journalist and author, Weiss worked at some of the world's most influential publications, including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. In 2020, she resigned from The New York Times, publicly arguing that the newspaper had become increasingly intolerant of views that challenged prevailing opinions.
Rather than leaving the industry, Weiss created her own platform. In 2021, she founded The Free Press, an independent media company built around open debate, intellectual curiosity and the idea that readers should be exposed to a wide range of views.
Her approach has paid off. In 2025, Weiss was appointed editor-in-chief of CBS News, giving her the opportunity to bring her belief in open debate and independent journalism to one of America's most influential news organisations.
Weiss has also been an outspoken advocate for the Jewish people and Israel. Since October 7, she has used her platform to speak forcefully about antisemitism and the importance of standing proudly as a Jew, even when doing so attracts criticism.
