Inspiring Jew from Today: Jerry Seinfeld
Few people are more closely associated with New York than Jerry Seinfeld. Born in Brooklyn in 1954 and raised on Long Island, Seinfeld began his career performing stand-up comedy in New York clubs before becoming one of the most successful comedians in the world.
The astronomical success of his television show Seinfeld made him a household name in the 1990s, and one of the most influential figures in modern comedy. Decades after the show's final episode, his humour continues to entertain audiences around the world.
Throughout his career, Seinfeld has remained proud of his Jewish identity. Following the attacks of 7 October 2023, he travelled to Israel with his family, meeting with hostage families, released hostages and survivors of the attacks. He has continued to speak out against antisemitism and support Israel at a time when many public figures have chosen to remain silent.
While continuing to tour around the world, Seinfeld has never shied away from his support for Israel, even when faced with hecklers and criticism. At a time when many public figures have chosen to keep their heads down, he has remained unapologetically Jewish and unapologetically supportive of Israel.
