Inspiring Jew from Today: Raz Shabtai
A few days ago, chef Raz Shabtai made history.
Born in Jerusalem, Shabtai built his culinary career around a simple idea: kosher food should never be seen as a compromise. Drawing on Israeli flavours, local ingredients and family traditions, he created Mutra, a kosher restaurant in Miami that quickly earned a reputation for exceptional food.
On the 28th May, Mutra was awarded a Michelin star, making it the first kosher restaurant in the world to hold this prestigious honour.
For Shabtai, kashrut is far more than a set of dietary laws. He has described kosher food as "a beautiful spiritual way of me to bond with God."That belief is reflected in his cooking. Rather than seeing kashrut as a limitation, Shabtai embraced it as a framework for creativity, discipline and excellence.
His success is a reminder that Jewish traditions continue to inspire achievement in the modern world. Sometimes, they even earn a Michelin star.
