Israeli Innovation: David's Sling

David’s Sling is the middle layer of Israel’s multi-levelmissile defence system. It was developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems in partnership with the United States Missile Defense Agency.

The program began in the mid-2000s in response to the growing threat of longer-range and precision missiles. After years of development and testing, in 2017 it became operational with the IDF.

It is designed to intercept medium to long range rockets, cruise missiles, advanced drones and tactical ballistic missiles, the kinds of weapons Iran and its proxies have invested in heavily.

The system uses the “Stunner” interceptor, built to track and destroy threats that fall between Iron Dome and the Arrow systems.

David’s Sling was instrumental in intercepting missiles in last year’s 12-day war with Iran. It helped protect Israeli civilians then, and it stands ready to do so again.
