Israeli Innovation: Magav Dogs

When it comes to security, Israel’s innovation is not always technological. Sometimes, it runs on four legs. The Border Police K9 Unit, known as Magav Dogs, was formally established in the 1970s. While Israel did not invent the concept of police dog units, it has developed and refined the practice to become a world leader.
Alongside Magav, the IDF’s elite Oketz Unit has trained dogs for combat, search and rescue, and explosives detection since 1974. Together, these units have set global standards in canine training. Israeli dogs and handlers save lives by detecting hidden weapons, preventing terror attacks, and locating people trapped under rubble — proving that innovation is not only about machines, but also about instinct, courage, and the partnership between human and animal.
